About Peter

Peter Mangiaracina is a New York-born writer living in the Canary Islands. He writes psychological mystery thrillers and dark, offbeat short fiction that moves through crime, horror, surrealism, and the absurd. His work often explores the uncertain territory between reality and perception, and the stories people tell themselves to make sense of both.

His forthcoming novel, The Canary Killer, is a psychological crime thriller and the first in the Ouroboros Cycle. He is currently writing the second novel in the series, A Hanging in Suite 221. His short fiction ventures into stranger territory, combining psychological tension with surreal and hallucinatory imagery, existential dread, and dark comedy.

Before turning seriously to fiction, Peter wrote and performed in surreal plays and later trained and performed extensively in improvisational theater. Those experiences continue to shape his emphasis on dialogue, character, and the unexpected turns people take when placed under pressure.

His fiction has appeared in magazines and anthologies including The Morgue Magazine, Bewildering Stories, TBR DARK, Patterns, and Rabbit Hole.

After the death of his wife, New York psychotherapist Trep Racine leaves his old life behind for Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where a visiting professorship offers the possibility of a fresh start. Instead, he finds himself drawn into the hunt for a serial killer targeting transgender women near Las Canteras beach. When one of Trep’s students becomes the latest victim, the case awakens memories of someone he once failed to protect and gives him a reason to stay. Working with Lieutenant Federica Antonelli, Trep must use his understanding of human behavior to help find a killer while confronting his own grief, guilt, and the limits of his ability to save the people around him.

Rabid Files

A holding pen for stray thoughts, automatic writing, articles on ancient Rome, cumulative complaints, conversations with artificial intelligence, and assorted riff-raff accumulated over the years. Some of it is serious. Some of it is an argument looking for someone to have it with. All of it had to go somewhere because it just didn’t fit here.
